Unplugged Fish Fun

This week over at Unplug Your Kids the theme is bottles. Gage and I decided to participate this week. When I first thought of 'bottles' I actually had a lot of ideas but quickly ruled them out. I thought about making bowling pins. You would just need soda bottles&sand but unfortunately(more like Thank Goodness) I don't have 10 soda bottles lying around. I thought about making the "ocean in the bottle" but I didn't think Gage would actually get the steps to it. While I wasn't short on ideas I had to find the right idea for my little man to do.

That led me looking online, which probably defeats the purpose of unplugged, but I ended up at Martha Stewart website. She had a tutorial to make a pig bank out of a bleach bottle. I thought it was really cute but maybe just a tad too girly(being pink and all) for Gage. So I started thinking of all the animals I could make out of bottles. I came up with a fish! Here is our very fun unplugged project.

Water Bottle Fish

Materials:
Scissors
Glue
Double sided tape
construction paper
1 water bottle
pom-pom balls
3 colors of paints

Step 1: After the water bottle is all dry on the inside have your little one(or your big one!) squeeze the 3 paints INSIDE the bottle. I'm not quite sure how much paint was put inside because I wasn't doing the squeezing but i would say about a quarter size for each paint.

Step 2: Have your little one shake it up! The whole entire bottle should be coated with paint. If its not shake a little harder!

Step 3: Paint the nose(bottle cap) of the fish
Step 4: Cut out the tail&fin.
Step 5: Glue on the pom-poms to your tail and fin.
Step 5: Attach tail&fin with double sided tape.
Step 6: Glue or paint on eyes.

So that is our finished project! Gage is so proud of it! He keeps walking around the house with his little fish. I haven't made it into a bank yet because I'm not sure what to attach to the bottom to make it stand up but its still cute just like it is now.

I can't wait until next weeks unplugged project!

I just confiscated a 2 liter bottle to make a pig for my Cali but I love this too. And who says it has to be a bank. I think they would be super cute hanging about too!
