Christmas

Well, my first Christmas as a single mom is completed.

Amazingly enough I was not at all upset. I didn't feel the least bit depressed. Having a 2 year old who can't sit still doesn't really leave you any time for that!

We had a great Christmas together just the two of us!

Bring on the New Year!

  5. A hearty congratulations to you. I was a single "Mom" for years, from the time my kids were 6 and 3. That was many years ago and a rather unique experience as they're now 37 and 40. For the record, my ex-wife gave me sole custody at the time, which was unusual to say the least.

I recall vividly my first holiday season with them and it was lovely, wonderful. I'm not at all certain how different it is for a woman as a single parent, however, I can tell you that raising mine was a wonderful, exciting adventure...and not at all especially difficult. As my Dad told me, "You'll know you've been a good parent if, when they're grown, your children don't live at home, don't ask for money and haven't shot you."

Mine live on either coast, we talk several times a week and I'm a grandparent now. If I, a peripatetic jackleg writer from New York, can do it, anyone can.

All the luck in world you and Gage.
